I'm back

Well, 20 days later, here's my next post.

I'm back from overseas, it was quite cold but tolerable and a nice change from the heat.

I'm pretty bummed about missing the run - even though I didn't feel ready, I don't like to fail at anything, so it's time to get back into things.

The SAN workouts are going well. I've been generally feeling quite well, though sometimes a bit rough in the stomach. I've been to the gastro specialist now and he's going to take a look inside me next month...not keen on that at all.

But, there you go. I'll be figuring out my new goal soon.

Oops...there goes the race...

Well, I didn't plan this very well. I just got an email reminding me the race is this sunday. I thought it was the end of Feb.

I doubt I'll do it from Stockholm!!

So, there goes that goal. I'm not too bothered, I'm still working on improving and I'll establish a new goal soon.

Zurich is nice - a bit cold, but nice. Not too cold, luckily, at least for me. I'm just wearing my suit and carrying a ski jumper just in case, but it's nice enough for me.

I'm next to my colleagues who seem to be wearing about 4 different layers of jackets and jumpers and still struggling with the cold. I think they might be vegetarians ;).

Live from Tokyo

Still the slackest poster ever, I'll try to improve.

It's been a busy couple of weeks, lots happening at work, preparing for business travel, etc. I'm currently in the Narita JAL Business lounge on my way to Europe.

I've not been diligently training for the 7kms, not sure if that's gonna happen, but I've been attending my 3 days per week SAN workout, so there are definitely improvements there.

Unfortunately, a couple of days ago I took a trip to the hospital and spent the night under observation. Not really an emergency as such, but at about 10pm I had really bad stomach and chest discomfort and just needed to see a doctor ahead of international travel. Although all heart tests were fine, they kept me overnight until I felt better.

They're certain it's not heart related. I had nearly every possible test and they all came up normal. The most likely explanation from the Emergency doctors is something gastrointestinal. Possibly an ulcer or some such thing, but not bad enough to need emergency action in their opinion.

So, current plan is to take it easy on eating and drinking (no acidic food, no fatty food, no alcohol) and then see a gastroenterologist (spelling?) when I return. So far (2 days in) I'm feeling perfectly fine, no upset or discomfort at all, so I'd say the cautious diet is working (and certainly much better for me anyway).

But, mentally I'm not enjoying this lapse in health. It's worrying and as an engineer, I need concrete explanations and I'm not getting them yet.

Anyway, thinking positively, Japan was nice for one night. We've been in a heatwave in Sydney so it's nice to be in cold weather for a bit. Of course, today I fly to Europe where I'll be in the other extreme...

Scrubs at Work

Scrubs is one of those tv shows that I often watch if I see it's on because it seems damn funny, but I've never taken the time to sit down and follow it religiously, despite all my other tv show addictions.

Imagine my surprise when I caught part of an episode the other day and I thought "wow, that could almost actually be the real Colin Hay from Men At Work, until it gets to the bit where he's asked to keep it down and then he breaks into a signature, unmistakable sound to confirm my observation. Right around the 1 minute mark.

Worst. Blog. Ever.

I'm still alive, just slack at posting.

Happy New Year! (Again.)

I'm back online and back exercising. I was pretty slack over Xmas/New Year but now I'm back into it. The 7kms run is at risk but I could always walk/run it if needed. In the meantime, I'll just get back to training and see how I go.

First day back at the SAN for the new year and it went okay. Medium pace workout and all stats seemed fine. The new drugs seem to have kicked in to help the blood pressure as well now.

Onward...

How I met your...

Still slacking here. It's been a good, relaxing christmas & new year. I've not thought about work at all, which is something incredibly rare for me, as my familiar readers will know. When our recruiter SMS'ed me today regarding a candidate I want to bring on in the new year, it made me realise there's still a job to be done somewhere.

But, to fitness...sadly, poor results. Too much beer, not enough exercise. How can I get on top of this?

Tomorrow we drive up to Nelson Bay for 4 days, we've got a room booked there at a resort. The plan is to tackle lots of beach time, but the weather up north is a nightmare right now, so we're not sure what to expect.

Either way, I need to get running again.

It's now 5 weeks until the sun run...I need to get back training for it.

So, let's see what the next few days bring!

Back online

I know my countless readers have been dying for an update.

We enjoyed a quiet Christmas up in Newcastle with Em as the focus of course. I didn't over-indulge too much but I also didn't work-out given that I kept fighting the cold.

Now we prepare for New Year's Eve tomorrow and then I get back into it. The cold is gone, so hence have all the excuses.

Happy New Year!
